adidas 2013 African Violet Purple Spring Wedding Ideas and Inspiration

PANTONE African Violet Purple2013 wedding color trends seem to be favoring purple over pink. In PANTONE’s spring 2013 fashion color trend report, one of the predicted colors to trend is PANTONE African Violet purple (See the purple color pictured on the right in the photo of the African Violet).

Now, this is just a name that PANTONE gives to their colors. This color of purple is also known by much more common names, such as light violet, mauve, pale amethyst, lilac, or wisteria. It is also close to a color called orchid. It is a light purple that leans more red than lavender, although it is also very close in color to lavender. It still has quite a bit of blue undertone as well.

This blog post will focus on planning a wedding or bridal shower around this beautiful lilac purple color that PANTONE has chosen as a color trend for 2013.

Significance of Choosing Purple as Your Wedding Color

Purple, in a general sense, is associated with imagination and spirituality, as well as good judgment, peace of mind and the future. All throughout history, it has also been associated with royalty, elegance, and wealth. It is also a powerful color with a richness to it that signifies leadership. Lighter shades of purple, like this PANTONE African Violet color, are considered youthful and energetic.

Purple is a combination of the warmest color red and the coolest color blue. Therefore, it is considered an ideal, perfectly balanced color. Red, a dynamic, activating color is balanced by blue, a calming and cooling color. You get the best of both worlds; that is, the energy, passion, and strength of red balanced by the tranquility, integrity, and calming of blue. Purple, representing imagination and dreams, helps to promote harmony of the mind and emotions.

African Violet Purple Bouquets Paired with Dark Violet DressesFor weddings, the color purple represents good judgment, peace of mind, and unconditional, selfless love. It is associated with sensitivity and compassion and a love of humanity. It also signifies a magical and mysterious love and is passionate, like red. All of these qualities are perfect to symbolize your love, feelings, and commitment to each other as a couple. As purple has so long been associated with royalty and nobility, a wedding using purple as a color theme will create an impression of luxury and elegance. All these qualities make purple a great choice for your 2013 wedding.

Another reason to choose purple for your wedding are the abundance of flowers to choose from for your bouquet and table arrangements. You will have no trouble finding purple flowers to choose from such as roses, orchids, freesia, violets, hydrangea, and forget-me-nots.

Choosing a lighter purple, such as PANTONE’s African Violet purple is a good choice to lighten up your wedding colors for spring.

Colors to Combine with African Violet Purple

Purple is a pretty versatile color actually. You can combine it with many other colors.

This lilac purple color looks great with darker purples such as darker violet, aubergine or eggplant. Some other colors that could work would be lapis, freesia, and plum depending on the shades the manufacturer is using.

Purple, in general, also looks great combined with lighter shades of pink, and African violet purple is no exception.

As always, you can combine purple with white and ivory or black and white. It also looks great paired with grey or even dark brown.

For a fun spring wedding, you can consider also combining it with spring green, lemon yellow, orange, light blue, or marine blue as well.

African Violet Purple Save the Date Announcements and Wedding Invitations

Lilac, Gold Glitter, Damask Wedding Invitation Once you’ve chosen your color purple color palette, then you need to choose your invitations and save the date announcements.

I’ve chosen a few African Violet purple wedding save the date and invitation designs that you might like. You can change the text or photo on these yourself and they come with white envelopes. I’ve also chosen some save the date postcards that you might like instead. There are matching stationery items you can purchase to go with these designs (postage, envelope seals, pre-printed designer envelopes, reply cards and insert cards, etc.) or mix and match the different designs because they are all using the same shade of purple.

Keep in mind that you’ll need to have sorted out your wedding date, time and location before ordering your wedding invitations. For the save the date announcements (which are more used for weddings where guests will need to travel), you’ll only need to know the wedding date and where the wedding is taking place. Pick out your wedding invitations well in advance if at all possible and allow plenty of time to receive them if you are ordering online. It’s best not to leave them last minute as you need to receive them on time to send them out to your guests with plenty of advance notice.

If you like any of these designs, but are having trouble customizing them or want changes to the colors, that’s no problem. You can contact any of the designers of these products and they’d be happy to help you out. Also, if you require any matching items and can’t find them, again, the designer will be happy to assist you.

Purple is a strong color, so you may want to use it more as an accent color rather than go over the top with it. However, it is entirely up to you.

You can have your bridesmaids wearing purple dresses and your flower girls with white dresses with purple sashes. Your groomsmen can have coordinating ties and vests or cumberbuns. Your groomsmen could wear grey or cream for a spring wedding. You can mix and match many neutral colors together.

For bouquets and flower arrangements, you can always mix and match purples and pinks and add in whites and ivories to tone down the colors. Purple and silver or gold work very well together for a rich look.

If you are pairing say purple and green, you can add touches of both colors. For example, bridesmaids could wear spring green dresses and bouquets could have several shades of purple flowers with touches of green as well. Your flower girl could wear an African violet purple dress with a green sash, headband, and/or shoes. Your bouquet could include splashes of both purple and green. And you can coordinate your groomsmen however you’d like.

This advice holds for any other purple color combination you are thinking of. Offset everything with crisp white or pretty ivory to keep the color from seeming like it is too much.

Orange and Purple Wedding Reception

Orange and Purple Wedding Reception

Just look at how great unique purple color combinations can look. For example, not many people think to pair orange, pink, and purple together, but this orange, pink, and purple wedding reception looked great and unique.

They added in touches of white to keep it from being color overload and just added touches of certain colors. It’s a whimsical, fun look for a couple who likes to take risks.

Basically, how you decorate is up to you and it’s hard to go too wrong if you’ve picked your palette well and you keep in mind that you don’t want to overload on color. Some color you might want to use more sparingly as accent pieces. Regardless, with purple you have many choices. Let’s take a look at wedding flowers next.

African Violet or Lilac Purple Wedding Bouquets and Flowers

Here’s a sampling of just some styles of wedding bridal bouquets and floral centerpieces. There is so much you can do with a purple wedding theme, as there are plenty of purple flowers and you can pair up purple with lots of other colors. Examples of common purple flowers used in wedding floral arrangements include: daisies, hydrangeas, lilacs, calla lilies, roses, orchids, hibiscus, carnations, freesia, violets, forget-me-nots, and tulips. Purple roses, in particular, seem to be perfect matches for the African violet purple we are thinking of here. And, they are beautiful as well.

African Violet or Lilac Purple Wedding Cakes

Beautiful African Violet Wedding Cakes

Beautiful African Violet Wedding Cakes

Aren’t these African Violet wedding cakes beautiful? Just lovely. And the whole table itself looks so nicely put together with the touches of neutral silver and ivory.

It’s also an interesting concept to have a few different sized cakes like this. Something like this might be handy if you have guests with special dietary requirements that are attending your wedding. Gluten sensitivities and allergies are becoming so prevalent that it’s possible you may want to provide a gluten free cake.

Many couples are opting out of wedding cakes and using cupcakes instead. This is a fun trend and it may make it easier to provide a dessert for your guests with allergies. Cupcake towers look great too, so why not?

Whimsical Purple Smartie Wedding Cake

Whimsical Purple Smartie Wedding Cake

The first image I showed is for a very elegant cake. However, not everyone loves elegant. Some couples prefer a more whimsical and fun atmosphere to their wedding, rather than elegance and refinement. While this smarties cake may not be your particular style, I wanted to show it so that you can see that not everything about your wedding has to be formal or stuffy. It’s your wedding day and you can have fun with it. Let your own personalities show through. If you would love a smarty cake, then by all means, have one! And add in any other fun decor ideas that appeal to your style. You want your wedding to be memorable and enjoyable, and adding your personality to your planning will do the trick.

Now that we’ve covered off wedding decor, let’s take a look at some wedding party outfits, particularly bridesmaid dresses and flower girl dresses. I did some shopping for you so you don’t have to.

Your groom and groomsmen need some coordinating items too. Here are some ties and accessories I found on Amazon that match our African Violet purple wedding theme.

Wedding Favors and Thank You Cards

Vintage Type Purple Wedding Thank You Photo Cards It’s always a nice idea to thank your wedding guests for attending your wedding. There are two ways you can do this.

One way is to hand out wedding favors at your wedding. These can be any little thing. Candies and chocolates are popular, but it can be anything you want. Generally they are personalized with your names and wedding date in some way. I’ve included some African Violet purple wedding favor tag sticker and mini wine label designs that you can personalize with your names and wedding date below. Some couples also donate to charity instead of giving out favors, but usually they have some sort of card on the tables indicating this was done.

The other way to thank your guests is traditional thank you cards mailed after your wedding. These can be flat or folded cards and some couples like to send a card that is personalized with their names and wedding photo. That is entirely up to you. I’ve also included a few African Violet purple wedding thank you card designs below as well.
